The Art of Shindo
The Shindo is a 36” stick which was devised by Masaru Shintani Sensei, 9th Dan, in the early
1970’s. Sensei started teaching Shindo to his students in the late 1980’s. It was then introduced to the Didsbury Karate club in 2005 & its practice continues.
The Shindo is taught to both karate & non-karate students. Basic blocks and strikes are practiced to make it a functional defense tool. A number of Katas (pre-arranged routines) are taught to compliment the students’ practice of the weapon.
If you are already in Karate it will compliment your present practice, working your stances & hip action. It is an effective self defense method, in which you can easily adapt any object nearby that resembles a shindo, to the defensive and offensive movements.
