Spruce Grove Karate is part of the Iwa Yama Karate organization as a non-profit group.
We study Wado-Kai Karate and are a member club of the Shintani Wado Kai Karate Federation (SWKKF). Wado-Kai Karate is derived from Shotokan Karate and ju-jitsu, and is one of the 4 main styles of Karate recognized by the World Karate Federation (WKF). Wado-Kai was introduced in Canada by Sensei Masaru Shintani.
Sensei Shintani was an honorable man and the respect that was given him surpassed our organization and borders. His legacy lives in the hearts of many, and his teachings continue through his students and those who honor Sensei.
The emblem of Wado-Kai is the dove and fist which represents the way of peace and harmony. This philosophy is deeply entrenched in our teachings that karate is not a means of harming another, but rather gaining strength of character not to; but being fully prepared to do so if given no other choice.
"The ultimate aim of karate lies not in victory or defeat but in the perfection of the character of its participants."
